I always find it amazing how God will use the most unusual situations and circumstances to put things into perspective. A little over a week ago we got the news that my husbands 3rd cousin, Colter Berry was taken from us due to a horrific vehicle accident. I didn’t know Colter well, I had been introduced to him a few times at family reunions and are facebook friends with his wife but that was the extent of it. His death however hit me hard. There was no part of me that could wrap my mind around it. He was 28 years of age with a wife (Kelli) and 1 year old son (Clay). [Read more…]
Every year since I can remember I have had the New Years resolution to lose weight and get in shape. Every year starts out fairly well but with in a couple month I have completely jumped ship and go back to old habits. This year I didn’t want to do that. I decided that although my intention is to have a healthy lifestyle of working out regularly and eating right that is not what I want my year to represent. [Read more…]
Going without enough sleep is not good for anyone. This is especially true for myself. I am a self proclaimed professional sleeper, I love sleep and when I don’t get enough….. watch out. My children however do not feel the same. My children have been awful sleepers since the day they were born. [Read more…]
I was in the grocery store with my youngest when I stopped to admire a baby. She had tons of curly black hair and eye lashes that went on for days. I asked the mother how old she was and told her how cute her daughter was. As we walked away my daughter innocently asked why they had such dark skin and why ours didn’t look the same? It caught me off guard. I took a couple of seconds to pondered the question, we have never made a big deal of skin color or outward appearances for that matter. [Read more…]
It was just last year that my oldest made the decision that Santa wasn’t real. He had been pondering the idea since 3rd grade that there might be a chance that all the magic was made up. Part of him held on to the idea that he was real. As his parents we went to great lengths to encourage him to hold onto the idea by buying the Santa app where you can take a picture of Santa in your own house. Crazy I know, but I wasn’t ready for him to know. As I tucked him one night, my now 5th grader asked me to tell him the truth. Was Santa real? [Read more…]
I came across this post on facebook called This is Why the Elf is Not on MY Shelf. I will admit at first I was somewhat offended because my family chooses to participate in the crazy tradition of Elf on the Shelf. It was just last year that my son officially decided that Santa wasn’t real and therefore it had to be my husband and I that had been moving our Elf from place to place. Since then it has become a tradition that the 3 of us meet up and create mischief for our Elf to get into each night after the girls go to bed. [Read more…]
In 1 Thessalonians 5:18 it says “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you”. Lately life has been a little overwhelming. It feels like there aren’t enough hours in a day. I could really use 2 or 3 more of myself to accomplish everything that needs to be done. I’m sure many of you feel the same way! Today was one of those days. The hours seemed to fly by and nothing was getting accomplished. [Read more…]
Thanksgiving is fast approaching. Fall is in the air and the grocery shelves are stocked with delicious traditional Thanksgiving favorites. Some of us are preparing to make the thanksgiving meal and the most important part of that meal is the turkey. A couple of years ago I prepared to cook my first turkey and was scared out of my mind. So many things could go wrong. My aunt so graciously shared a turkey brine recipe with me and walked me through cooking a delicious. I am going to pass that recipe on to all of you. [Read more…]
